ISSUES

With less than a month to go until Election Day, the voters of Colorado have found themselves at the center of a historic ballot fight that could easily change the direction of our state for decades to come. Recognizing the threat posed by some of the measures on this year's ballot, an unprecedented coalition of Colorado business leaders, progressive groups, unions, faith-based organizations and individuals from across the state have come together to defeat Amendments 47, 49 and 54.

AMENDMENT 47: Vote NO

Amendment 47 will limit the ability of firefighters, nurses, teachers and police officers to work as a group to advocate for better working conditions, protective equipment and appropriate staffing levels that keep them - and us - safe.

If this measures passes it will let government interfere instead of allowing employees and employers to negotiate what's best for them in the workplace. Unfortunately, a small group of special interests believe their ideology is more important than a sound Colorado economy.

AMENDMENT 49: Vote NO

Amendment 49 will weaken the voice of small, local businesses and limit the way firefighters, nurses, teachers and police officers can choose to spend their hard-earned paychecks. Our Colorado public employees should be able to determine how they spend their own money, just like every other Coloradan. You should not have fewer rights because of the profession you choose.

The backers of Amendment 49 would like you to believe that this measure will save the Colorado taxpayers money - this is simply not true. Even the Legislative Council, who is responsible for the non-partisan Blue Book, has agreed that this measure will not save Colorado any money.

AMENDMENT 54: Vote NO

Amendment 54 would unfairly silence any person, or family member, of anyone who works on a government contract from contributing to a candidate and/or advocating for an issue at any level. Loopholes are built in to this amendment so that the laws will not apply to large corporations such as defense contractors and drug, oil or energy companies.

If this measure passes it will effectively silence the voice of the individual in the political process. This amendment would make it impossible for candidates to raise money through grass roots fundraising for fear of receiving a contribution from someone involved in a government contract. The taking of a contribution from someone involved in a government contract punishes the candidate, not the donor.
